Music. Art. Culture - Concert by Juan Diego Flórez

Danube Private University invites its students, alumni, parents of students, faculty, partners, and friends to a concert by Juan Diego Flórez, accompanied by Stephen Hopkins (piano), as well as a lecture by Prof. Dr. Giovanni Maio MA on the topic "Ethics of Vulnerability and Music" on June 22, 2024.

"Ethics of Vulnerability and Music"
Medicine is the institutionalized response to human vulnerability. Every human is inherently vulnerable, but falling ill makes one particularly vulnerable because it questions many aspects: physical and mental integrity, self-image, self-worth, and the future. Medicine cannot only respond with technology and medication but must also react with a culture of care. Caring attention, empathy, and understanding can help transform a situation of condensed vulnerability into one of new orientation and confidence. Where medicine is understood as a practice of interpersonal relationships, it can restore the feeling that even in illness, one remains a whole person, and this feeling can sometimes be more healing than any medication.

Juan Diego Flórez, one of the best tenors in the world, has always kept this fundamental human vulnerability in mind and has tried in his way to respond to it with a culture of care. He has been committed for years to helping young people from the poorest families in his native Peru gain a chance at a better life through music. Music can be a remedy for the plight of inherently vulnerable people, and it expresses that humans, in their fundamental vulnerability, are always open to being touched and even healed at their core by the harmony of sound.
